Russia's war in Ukraine, the United States-Iran deal and energy security in the Strait of Hormuz were among the issues discussed at the G7 summit in France, alongside trade tensions and the global economy. Andrew Yeo, senior fellow at the Center for Asia Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution, tells CNA's Asia First that the Iran deal helped improve the mood among G7 leaders and ease tensions between Washington and its European allies. He also says greater US engagement in Ukraine could encourage broader support from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and European Union partners, while arguing that Asian countries should play a larger role in energy security discussions given their dependence on the Strait of Hormuz.
