As South Africa commemorates Youth Month and reflects on the aspirations of young people, youth living with disabilities in Rustenburg in the North West say they are excluded from meaningful educational and economic opportunities, despite the Constitutional guarantees of equality and inclusion.
While government and civil society organisations have made progress in advancing the rights of persons with disabilities, challenges persist, particularly for young people who attend special schools.
They often later struggle to transition to further education, skills development programmes and employment.
