#WATCH | Defence is an important pillar of India–Slovakia cooperation and offers significant opportunities for defence exports and industrial collaboration. The Letter of Intent on Defence Cooperation signed today will strengthen collaboration in areas such as defence policy, promotion of the defence industry, military education and training, arms control and disarmament, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), joint exercises and training, and United Nations peacekeeping operations, among others. In each of these areas, both sides bring unique strengths. For example, India is one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping operations, which presents opportunities for enhanced cooperation. India is also placing strong emphasis on self-reliance in defence manufacturing through the development of two major Defence Industrial Corridors, one in northern India and another in southern India. These initiatives offer substantial opportunities for collaboration between private-sector companies from both countries. In fact, there are already several ongoing arrangements in the defence sector. For example, cooperation exists between the Slovak company VRM and HAL Kanpur in India. There are also a few other collaborative engagements underway. Without going into the details of each, I can say that defence cooperation is already progressing steadily. We see the Defence Letter of Intent as an important step toward further strengthening this collaboration.
