Remains of KZN man allegedly lured to Russia for a job returned home

The family of Sihle Makhaye and KZN Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma are giving a joint media briefing in Durban after receiving his mortal remains, following their successful repatriation from Russia to KwaZulu-Natal.

The repatriation was facilitated with the assistance of Duma, who has successfully ensured that Makhaye's remains are returned home.
He tragically died in Russia on March 28th, 2026. According to his wife, Sibonile Ndwandwe, he was lured there under the guise of a lucrative employment opportunity - specifically receiving training as a bodyguard, but reports indicate it was part of a botched recruitment scam linked to the Russia-Ukraine war.
