Alleged underworld kingpin Vusimuzi Matlala and four others back in court

The case against alleged underworld kingpin Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala, together with his four co-accused, resumes at the Johannesburg Magistrates court this morning. Matlala is accused of orchestrating the failed assassinations of his former girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane. And he is also linked to the attempted murder of businessman Joe Sibanyoni, and music producer Seunkie Mokubung, popularly known as DJ Vettys.

The defence teams are expected to make a formal application to compel the state to handover outstanding evidence. Its understood that the defence wants the state to provide a statement allegedly made by a state witness to IPID. They also want the Automatic Vehicle Location records of police vehicles used during the arrest of Matlala.
