Veteran actress and former beauty queen Cynthia Shange has passed away at the age of 76.

She died in the early hours of Monday morning at a hospital in KwaZulu-Natal after an illness.

Shange leaves behind a rich legacy in South Africa’s arts and entertainment industry.

Rising to prominence in the 1970s, Shange made history when she was crowned the first black Miss Africa South, and represented the country at Miss World in London in 1972.
