ARTS & CULTURE | Market Theatre turns 50 with birthday weekend

Fifty years ago, The Market Theatre opened its doors in Newtown and changed South African theatre forever. This June, the Market Theatre Foundation celebrates that legacy with a 50th birthday weekend that started on Friday and ends this Sunday.

Audiences can expect "Let's Meet at The Market" - a special performance - plus exhibitions, talks, a names wall honouring theatre makers, and a new play reflecting on the week the theatre first opened in June 1976.
