Youth Month | Young people play role in agricultural development

Food security is increasingly being viewed as more than just a humanitarian concern. Around the world, policymakers and economists are warning that disruptions in agriculture, supply chains and food production pose a growing economic risk. Here in South Africa, farmers are grappling with rising fuel and fertiliser costs, logistics bottlenecks and ongoing uncertainty in global commodity markets. Agricultural bodies have warned that escalating input costs could eventually place further pressure on food prices and production. Yet amid these challenges, a new generation of young South Africans is looking beyond the crisis and asking how innovation, entrepreneurship and technology can help build a more resilient agricultural sector.
