Illegal mining creating chaos in parts of Limpopo

Some residents in the Sekhukhune District in Limpopo say illegal mining is continuing unabated.

Community members in areas such as Ga-Nkoana believe that little is being done by the police to curb illegal mining.

However, police say they are dealing with the issue through Operation Shanela.

They say more than 1,600 people were arrested for illegal mining activities in the Sekhukhune District during the third quarter of 2025.
