EU pledges €170 million to fight Ebola outbreak

More than 130 people are dead and over 500 cases have been reported as Ebola continues to spread across the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Great Lakes region.

The outbreak involves the Bundibugyo strain, for which no vaccine or specific treatment exists. The average Ebola fatality rate sits around 50%. The EU will commit €170 million to support health and humanitarian response efforts.
