R440 billion earmarked for transmission lines

South Africa's steel and engineering sector is key to the country's efforts to revamp its electricity grid. Government aims to build 14 000 kilometres of transmission lines over the next eight years, under a massive 440 billion rand public-private partnership. Electricity and Energy Minister, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, says the grid expansion will not only safeguard energy security, but will also drive critical industrial reform.
