Ukraine is pushing for Russia to accept a ceasefire before winter | News in Depth

Deep strikes inside Russia, the pummeling of logistics that supplied occupied Crimea, and Ukraine's managing to regain more territory than it is losing have inspired Kyiv’s supporters with enthusiasm. Does it mean Ukraine has successfully turned the tide of war in its favor?

“We hear that quite a lot at the moment. I would be careful about using that phrase,” said Stuart Dowell, TVP World’s Political Editor. “I think the better word is momentum. Ukraine has momentum in the war. And it's using that momentum to stop Russia from winning. But Ukraine itself is also not winning this war. Both sides are exhausted.”

“Russia doesn’t have a problem with manpower. It has a problem with getting people into the army to go and fight. Russia has 2 million reservists, (it) has a standing army of 1.3 million,” Dowell pointed out, adding that Moscow still has much greater capacity to produce munitions.
