Ottawa moves to restrict social media for kids under 16

The Liberal bill would force social media platforms focused on user-shared content to restrict accounts for children under 16 years old. Officials told reporters some platforms could seek an exemption if they implement adequate safeguards to protect children.

The bill has to be passed by Parliament before becoming law. It also sets out criteria for AI chatbots.
