City of Joburg shuts businesses down over unpaid rent

The City of Johannesburg says it is owed more than R3-million in unpaid rent by businesses operating from its Johannesburg Social Housing Company. Human Settlements MMC, Mlungisi Mabaso, has led a compliance operation, shutting down several businesses for failing to honour lease agreements and payment arrangements. The operation is part of the city's efforts to improve revenue collection, enforce compliance, and ensure municipal properties are managed properly.
