Russian propaganda has a strange way of admitting defeat while pretending everything is under control. In this episode of Break the Fake, host Benjamin Lee looks at Oleg Pakholkov’s call for the Kremlin to apply economic pressure on Armenia, Alexander Lukashenko’s praise for Russia as an “island of justice,” and a Russian politician’s reported call for a nuclear strike on Ukraine. Each case exposes a different part of the same authoritarian playbook: blackmail, legal theatre, imperial entitlement, and controlled panic. Moscow claims its influence is being “stolen” by the West, but its own rhetoric keeps showing why its neighbours are looking elsewhere. And when even Russian officials begin saying the war is not going according to plan, the propaganda script starts to fall apart.
