All foreign-registered motor vehicles entering SA to be declared

The South African Revenue Service will from Monday, 01 June 2026 implement legislation that requires all foreign-registered motor vehicles entering South Africa, to be declared for temporary importation. Previously, all vehicles registered in Lesotho and other Southern African Customs Union member states have enjoyed free movement. The new regulations have been met with mixed feelings, panic and congestion as many rush to beat the June deadline.
