Top US and Russian diplomats discuss Ukraine war in Manila

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says he's had a “good and frank conversation” with Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov and that Washington is prepared to take an active role in ending the war in Ukraine.
They met on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Manila.
Ukraine and Russia have ramped up attacks in recent weeks.
But indirect talks brokered by the US have stalled.
