Watch: Emergency rescue of Marineland's beluga whales begins

The first beluga whales from Marineland in Niagara Falls, Ont., have begun their journey to new homes in the U.S., after facing the threat of euthanasia since last fall.

The theme park and zoo permanently closed in 2024, and there were concerns it was running out of money to care for its remaining animals.

Up to 30 belugas could be moved to U.S. aquariums in the coming weeks.
