Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in North Korea on Monday (Jun 8) for a two-day visit – his first in almost seven years. He said he is looking to bolster economic and diplomatic ties with Pyongyang as the neighbours seek to upgrade relations. John Delury, senior fellow of the Asia Society and visiting research fellow at Ewha Womans University, tells CNA’s Asia Now that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is in a “much more engaged mode”. This comes as Kim has hosted a series of important visits this year, including Xi, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, and Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.
