Singapore’s social cohesion “has taken a long time to build up” but can be broken if we are not careful, Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo said on Saturday (Jun 6), after authorities ordered three social media platforms to block access to 14 posts targeting the Indian community.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said the posts contained problematic narratives aimed at the Indian community and sought to undermine Singapore’s model of multiculturalism.
Investigations by the police and MHA found that the content likely originated from a China-based platform before being shared on other platforms and websites.
“Today, they target the Indians and they pit the Chinese against them. Tomorrow it will be other races, other communities. We must not allow that,” Ms Teo said. #singapore #sgnews
