As South Africa marks the 50th Anniversary of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, the City of Johannesburg presents the 2026 edition of EMBO, a powerful cultural and intellectual commemoration, honouring the enduring spirit of youth activism, African consciousness, and resistance against colonial domination.
Taking place at the Soweto Theatre today, this year's programme places special focus on Anton Muziwakhe Lembede, remembered not only as one of the foremost architects of African nationalism, but also as a fearless young intellectual, activist, and founding President of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL).
We are now joined in studio by Vuyisile Mshudulu, specialist and activist in the cultural and creative industries for more on this event.
