Squid fleet : the ‘dark’ vessels plundering the high seas • FRANCE 24 English

An investigation published by the NGO Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) uncovers widespread environmental and human rights abuses on board squid fishing fleets.

 

More than 430 fishermen interviewed reported witnessing animal cruelty, wildlife trafficking, physical violence and modern day slavery.

 

Europe imports 79% of its squid. Unregulated areas in the South-East Pacific, North Indian ocean and South-Western Atlantic make up 60% of the world’s supply.
