More U.S. nukes in Europe will not make up for conventional forces | Fabrice Pothier

Over the preceding weeks, the U.S. made its European allies scramble amid announcements of troop withdrawal from Germany, halting a deployment to Poland, and rumours about slashing its long-range capabilities stationed on the Old Continent. Poland has been actively lobbying to keep the American presence and appears to have achieved some successes. But are they really?

“I understand that some countries, like Poland, are obviously very committed to make sure the U.S. stays engaged, but the reality is that the U.S., every few months and weeks, is chipping away (at) some of its commitments to the defense of Europe,” Fabrice Pothier, CEO of Rasmussen Global, told TVP World, adding that “Even the posting of U.S. dual-capable aircraft in Poland with tactical nuclear bombs (...) (is) not going to compensate (for) the gaps that are left in conventional deterrence in Europe, with U.S. forces leaving part of their bases in Europe.”
