KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC, Mbali Shinga is taking her party to court after the National Freedom Party (NFP) recalled her from the provincial legislature.
She is seeking an urgent interdict to halt her removal, and the swearing-in of party leader, Ivan Barnes in her place.
The dispute follows her refusal in November 2025 to support a vote in favour of an MK Party motion of no-confidence against KZN Premier, Thami Ntuli.
Shinga refused to vote with the opposition and instead sided with the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU)
She holds the NFP's sole seat in the KwaZulu-Natal provincial legislature.
UKZN Political Science lecturer, Zakhele Ndlovu joins us to unpack what is at stake.
