Back to school at 4,500 meters: A Tibetan boy begins a new semester

Nagqu in southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region sits at an average altitude of over 4,500 meters, the highest of any prefecture-level administrative region in the country, with fewer than two people per square kilometer.

Herding families live scattered across vast grasslands, and the nearest township school can be dozens of kilometers away. For years, getting an education was a major challenge for local children.

Today, boarding schools are making education more accessible.

CGTN follows a 13-year-old herder from the summer pastures back to school, to see how boarding education is changing lives on the plateau.
