In recent months, Donald Trump announced a reduction in the U.S. military presence in Europe, both in terms of the number of troops and the withdrawal of some of the Pentagon’s long-range capabilities, causing considerable confusion among NATO allies and raising concerns about whether Europeans will be able to fill the resulting capability gaps. .

“I’m confident in this. If you listen to what the operational command says, there will be no impact on our plans because the pullout will be under control, will be coordinated, will be smooth, and it will be done in a way in which we can step in swiftly,” Adm. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, NATO’s Chair of the Military Committee, told TVP World on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara. “I think that an alliance as mature and strong as NATO will be able to handle this.”
