Airlines seek to strike a balance between high jet fuel prices and affordable air fares

Jet fuel prices have been steadily falling in recent weeks.

This is according to data released by commodities' pricing company, Platts.

Their data shows that in the week ended 29th May, jet fuel prices fell by 11.4 percent on average at just over 141 dollars a barrel, compared to the previous week.

When comparing the month of May to April, prices were down by nearly 25 percent.

However, on a year-on-year basis, the price of jet fuel prices still remained relatively high, up nearly 60 percent.

Aviation expert Guy Leitch says airlines around the world, including here in South Africa, are trying to find a balance between bridging months of high operational costs, while also trying to keep air fares affordable.
