Zimbabwe tables Amendment No. 3 Bill

Zimbabwe's Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi, has formally tabled the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment No. 3 Bill before the National Assembly. The Bill was gazetted on 16 February and subsequently underwent a 90-day public consultation process. Its first reading in Parliament marks the beginning of legislative debate on its various provisions before it is referred to the Senate for consideration. The Bill will then return to the National Assembly for a third reading and final vote. Should it secure approval from both Houses, it will be forwarded to President Emmerson Mnangagwa for assent. Among its key provisions, the Bill seeks to extend by two years the terms of office of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Members of Parliament, and local authority councillors. However, opposition to the proposed constitutional amendments continues to grow, with several legal challenges already filed before Zimbabwe's Constitutional Court.
