Court orders closure and relocation of Malindi dumpsite

Residents of Malindi have lauded a ruling by the Environment and Land Court that ordered the closure and relocation of the Malindi dumpsite located near Casuarina area. The residents say there has been concerns about poor disposal of waste including medical waste from health facilities, finding its way to the dumpsite due to inadequate disposal mechanisms. Environmental groups have welcomed the decision, saying it reinforces the principle that development and public services must be implemented within the framework of environmental law.
