China's visa-free policy for 5 South American countries marks one year

The visa-free policy for five South American countries—Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Peru, and Uruguay—marked its first anniversary on May 31. Over the past year, the policy has been fueling growing enthusiasm among South American travelers to visit China. According to data from the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection, a total of 81,000 passenger trips from the five countries were recorded at Shanghai ports between June 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026, marking a year-on-year increase of 50.5%. Nearly 70% of these inbound travelers used the visa-free policy, which has become a key driver behind the booming inbound tourism market.
