For residents in the deep mountains of Jinzhai County, Anhui Province, seeking medical care used to mean a grueling, 150-kilometer journey to big city hospitals. Today, top-tier medical expertise is available at their own clinics. By upgrading township health centers into regional medical sub-centers, the program brings life-saving treatments like hemodialysis and routine surgeries closer to home. Through proactive health management and cancer screening, Jinzhai has successfully achieved the integration of medical treatment and disease prevention, turning an annual deficit of 80 million yuan (around $11.8 million) into a sustainable surplus.
