Foot-and-Mouth Disease | Steenhuisen on vaccine acquisition

Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen has announced that 3.5 million extra doses of Foot-and-Mouth Disease vaccine has arrived from Argentina.

The country's total available stockpile in now 13.5 million doses.

​The Minister says this will speed up containment in high-risk areas.

Steenhuisen insists the government's target remains unchanged despite a recent High Court ruling that stripped the state of its exclusive control over the buying and administering of vaccines.

Steenhuisen says his department aims to vaccinate 80 percent of the national cattle herd by December 2026.
