Marius van der Merwe's murder-accused Matipandile Sotheni denied bail

The family of slain Marius van der Merwe, also known as Witness D, has welcomed the Brakpan Magistrate's Court's decision to deny bail to his alleged shooter, Matipandile Sotheni.

The magistrate, whose name cannot be disclosed, ruled that she was convinced the state had a prima facie case against Sotheni.

He faces 16 charges, including murder and conspiracy to commit murder, linked to the December 2025 fatal shooting of Van der Merwe in front of his wife and children.
