Putin may not be fully briefed on how bad war in Ukraine going for him | Mark Toth

Following CIA Director John Ratcliffe’s trip to Moscow amid Russian escalation of attacks against Ukraine and tensions with NATO, U.S. President Donald Trump attempted to downplay its importance, describing it as “semi-routine.”

“The last time a CIA director was in Moscow was back in November of 2021 (...) to warn Russia about invading Ukraine. So this is momentous. It is significant,” Mark Toth, Co-Founder of Intrep360, a global firm specializing in national security and foreign policy, told TVP World, adding that this time Washington is trying to send Putin a clear message, but “whether he gets it or not – time will tell.”

“I think if you interpret Trump’s statements, he’s simply trying to calm the markets. But there’s nothing semi-routine about what John Radcliffe had to say,"" Toth said, musing that Washington “may feel (...) that Putin is not being fully briefed by his own intelligence services on just how precarious his position is with respect to Ukraine,” and that if sustained, Ukraine’s long-range campaign against Russian infrastructure can make life very difficult for him.
