Euphrates floods displace thousands as rising waters devastate eastern Syria

Thousands of families have been forced from their homes after the Euphrates River reached its highest level in years, triggering widespread flooding across eastern Syria.
Heavy rainfall across Syria and neighboring Turkey caused water levels to surge, overwhelming reservoirs and forcing authorities to release water from dams along the river system.
Entire neighborhoods in Deir ez-Zor were inundated, with homes damaged or destroyed and residents evacuating by boat. Floodwaters also swept away makeshift bridges and submerged vast areas of farmland.
Farmers say they have lost entire harvests, adding to economic hardships in a region already struggling with years of conflict and displacement.
The disaster has hit communities still recovering from fighting earlier this year, raising concerns about humanitarian needs and long-term recovery efforts.
