A record-breaking heatwave brought an extraordinary sight to Poland's Baltic coast as two moose were spotted cooling off in the sea near Hel while temperatures climbed above 40°C.
The scorching conditions triggered the highest-level heat alerts, strained emergency services with a surge in heat-related callouts, and sent both people and wildlife in search of relief.
Authorities urged people to stay hydrated, avoid the midday sun and take extra precautions, but the extreme weather also drew crowds to beaches as many made the most of the summer sunshine.
