Lt. General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is the 2025 Newsmaker of the Year

Crime, corruption, misinformation and the role of ethical leadership dominated discussions at the 2025 Newsmaker of the Year Awards held in Pretoria last night.

Hosted by the National Press Club in partnership with UNISA, the annual event recognises individuals who have shaped South Africa’s news agenda and public discourse over the past year.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi was named the 2025 Newsmaker of the Year for his impact on national conversations around crime, policing and accountability.
