Former Orlando Pirates captain and Bafana Bafana, international Innocent Maela believes the experience gained by players competing at the highest level of African club football could play an important role in South Africa's FIFA World Cup campaign.
With Bafana Bafana set to open their tournament against co-hosts Mexico on 11 June, Maela says the influence of players from CAF Champions League winners, Mamelodi Sundowns and the treble winning Orlando Pirates squad, will be crucial as the national team prepares for the global stage.
He added that the competitiveness of the Betway Premiership has also contributed to strengthening the national team ahead of the tournament.
Maela was speaking at the launch of the Lerato Lamola Winter Games in Tembisa, Johannesburg.
