Discussing the evolving nature of Russia’s war against Ukraine, they explore how drone warfare has become one of its defining features, overtaking earlier phases dominated by tanks and mass artillery. Preston Stewart explains how Ukraine has helped drive this shift, forcing Russia into a reactive position while using drones for precision strikes across the battlefield, as well as deep into occupied and Russian territory.


The conversation also looks at the widening geographic impact of the war, including drone strikes and spillover incidents affecting civilian areas in countries such as Romania, as well as maritime traffic in the Black Sea. Despite Russia’s continued pressure, Ukrainian defenses remain highly effective, with layered fortifications and sustained attritional losses making large-scale Russian breakthroughs increasingly difficult.


The discussion concludes that the war is unlikely to be decided by a decisive battlefield victory for either side, but rather through prolonged attrition and a future negotiated settlement shaped by shifting military leverage.
