The Northern Cape High Court has postponed a declaratory order matter between Northern Cape Department of Cooperative Governance, Human settlements and Traditional Affairs and Sol Plaatje Municipality to a date to be announced.
Northern Cape CoGHSTA MEC, Bentley Vass approached to court for a declaratory order to nullify a virtual special council meeting that sat in April.
The municipality lodged a counter application challenging the legality of Section 139 (a and b) of the Constitution.
The Sol Plaatje Municipality was placed under administration early in May 2026 following concerns the council was not fulfilling its constitutional mandate, after a series of collapsed council meetings.
