As Poland hands the Council of the Baltic Sea States presidency to Iceland, officials highlighted efforts to strengthen regional security, counter Russia’s shadow fleet, and protect critical infrastructure.
“Following Sweden and Finland’s accession to the Alliance, the Baltic Sea – in terms of coastline – has become 93% a NATO sea. However, this does not mean it’s free from serious security challenges,” said Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in the coastal cities of Gdynia and Sopot while officially handing over the presidency to Iceland, which will assume the role on July 1.
