Hajj pilgrims perform symbolic stoning ritual at Jamarat in Saudi city of Mina

The ritual stoning of the Jamarat is one of the central acts of the Hajj pilgrimage, performed over several days at Mina, near Mecca. On the second day of the rite, pilgrims cast seven pebbles at the largest of three pillars, each representing a position where the devil is said to have appeared to the Prophet Ibrahim. Following the stoning, pilgrims may circumambulate the Kaaba seven times before returning to Mina, or remain there for the final days of Hajj before completing the pilgrimage in Mecca.
