Marble Towers | Joburg Mayor Dada Morero shares more on court order

The Johannesburg High Court has given the City of Johannesburg authorisation to demolish and remove illegal and unsafe structures inside the Marble Towers building in the city centre. Earlier on Thursday, 28 May 2026, the court dismissed with costs an interim interdict brought by the property owner Goldenrod Group. Judge Leicester Adams dismissed the group's application after finding that several container structures were built without approved plans and did not comply with building regulations. The court also found that no building plans had ever been submitted or approved by the Metro for the structures, despite repeated enforcement notices issued over several years.
