Rescuers have begun a complex extraction operation after five of seven men trapped for a week in a cave in central Laos were found alive.
A volunteer rescue team which was involved in the 2018 rescue of a Thai football team stranded in another cave has joined the effort.
Finnish diver Mikko Paasi says the discovery of the men has brought a ‘brief relief’ but warns it will not be easy to extract them due to the cave’s rough terrain and dangerous conditions.
