Bedok hawker centre linked to TB clusters deep cleaned ahead of reopening

Hawkers at Block 216 Bedok Food Centre & Market are hoping customers will return after a deep-cleaning operation triggered by a tuberculosis (TB) cluster announcement hit business in recent days.

East Coast Town Council began a three-day cleaning operation at the hawker centre on May 17, after the site was identified as one of three TB clusters in the area.

One hawker said the exercise helps reassure the public that the place remains safe to visit, adding they hoped regular customers — who are “like family” to them — return to support the stalls.

The quarterly market washing was brought forward by a month and paired with an enhanced deep-cleaning treatment. The food centre is set to reopen on May 20.
