Sports at the Roof of the World｜Ciren Cuomu: from reluctant kid to Xizang's marathon pioneer

Ciren Cuomu, born in 1997 in Rikaze, Xizang, is a Chinese marathon runner. She started from rural fields and rose to become the first woman from Xizang to compete in a World Championships marathon (Doha 2019). At the 2025 National Games, she won silver in the marathon in 2:30:25 and bronze in the 10,000m, setting the best marathon result ever for Xizang and bringing honor to her homeland.

In this episode, Ciren Cuomu reflected on leaving home at age 14 to pursue running – initially scared and reluctant, until her grandfather encouraged her to take the first step.
