Trump says Iran talks 'proceeding nicely' as he ties deal to Abraham Accords expansion

US President Donald Trump says negotiations with Iran are "proceeding nicely" and remain active, while also signalling a broader regional vision linking any potential deal to the expansion of the Abraham Accords. Trump said several countries, including Qatar and Saudi Arabia, could be encouraged to normalise relations with Israel if progress is made with Tehran, adding that the process is aimed at shaping what he described as a "new Middle East order".
He added that while discussions are ongoing, they are complex and aimed at a broader regional settlement rather than a narrowly defined agreement with Iran, signalling that an outcome is not imminent despite continued diplomatic engagement.
Meanwhile, parallel discussions are taking place in Doha involving Iranian and Qatari officials on some of the most sensitive unresolved issues between Washington and Tehran. These include Iran's frozen assets, highly enriched uranium stockpiles, and maritime concerns such as the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian media and sources cited in the report also point to the involvement of senior officials, including the foreign minister and central bank governor, as talks continue under Qatar's mediation.
The developments come as both sides continue efforts to narrow differences on key issues, with no final agreement reached so far.
