SAPS forensic arrest raises case integrity concerns

A South African Police Service captain attached to the Forensic Science Laboratory has been arrested on allegations of defeating the ends of justice in several high-profile murder cases.

The arrest was carried out by the Commission’s Recommendations Task Team at the officer’s residence in Pretoria on Friday, following an investigation into claims that he may have interfered with the administration of justice.

Police says the allegations are linked to a number of ongoing murder investigations, as well as evidence presented before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrates Court tomorrow.(Monday).
