At least 60 community health promoters and healthcare providers in Kisumu County have undergone a comprehensive two-week capacity building on sickle cell disease management. The training is part of an elaborate program by the government and partners to promote screening for sickle cell for early detection. The three-year program also seeks to strengthen support systems for sickle cell disease patients. As one of the counties with the highest sickle cell disease burden in the country, Kisumu received a donation of a gazelle sickle cell screening machine to improve response outcomes.
