Former North West Premier Bushy Maape to be laid to rest in Vryburg

The funeral service of former North West Premier and struggle stalwart Bushy Maape will be held in Vryburg today, 23 May 2026.

Maape has been accorded a Special Provincial Official Funeral Category 1 by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

He died last weekend after a short illness at the age of 68 in Johannesburg.

He was the Premier of the province from 2021 till 2024 after taking over from Professor Job Mokgoro who was accused of allegedly ignoring party instructions.
